The mineral that affects both sleep and stress

Magnesium is becoming more and more popular, but what is it really good for? Here you can learn more about magnesium - how it affects you and the symptoms of magnesium deficiency.

Why is magnesium important?

Magnesium is a mineral that is crucial for several of the body's functions. Among other things, it helps to keep track of blood pressure, keep the skeleton strong, maintain normal muscle function and ensure that the heart beats properly.

Foods that contain magnesium

It is good to try to get your magnesium through your diet. This means that you also get other important antioxidants, minerals and vitamins that are combined with each other in a natural way. Magnesium is found naturally in leafy vegetables, legumes, meat, shellfish, fish and whole grain products. And drink lots of water! Even drinking water contains a lot of magnesium.

Symptoms of magnesium deficiency

Magnesium deficiency is uncommon in healthy people. But it is not so simple to measure the level of magnesium in the body. Only 2% of the magnesium is found in the blood. The rest is found in other tissue, such as in the bone structure. But if you suspect a magnesium deficiency, for example, these are the symptoms you should keep an eye on:

  • Cramping muscles
  • Mental fatigue or feelings of depression
  • Higher heart rate than usual

Magnesium also helps form sleep hormones

Melatonin is the hormone that makes you sleepy, and magnesium helps to some extent to form it. It may therefore be an idea to try a dietary supplement with the combination of melatonin, magnesium and zinc if you have difficulty sleeping.

Are magnesium levels in the body affected by stress?

Magnesium helps the body regulate stress hormones, so if we feel stressed the body uses more magnesium. A good magnesium level can thus help us deal with stress better. A little stress now and then is not dangerous, but long-term stress can affect the body negatively.

A+ Magnesium contains a combination of the easily absorbable forms magnesium bisglycinate and magnesium citrate together with magnesium oxide which gives a high proportion of elemental magnesium. The product also contains vitamin B6, which is an important synergist for magnesium and which, among other things, contributes to a normal energy metabolism.

Magnesium regulates the neurotransmitters that talk to the brain's nervous system. This means that the right amount of magnesium in the body can actually contribute to a calmer nervous system, which in turn makes it easier for the body to relax and sleep well.
